THE LAST SHOWGIRL

Despite the dress code stating ‘Cinema Chic’, there was no way my mind, body or soul could attend the first screening of The Last Showgirl in London without a major nod to the Vegas Showgirl.

As with most premieres, I was invited less than a week before the event & got to work immediately on organising an outfit.

I wanted a corset to be the centre piece, & starting looking around for one that felt the most fitting. Internet searching (with a cup of tea beside me) led me to the Agent Provocateur Izzi corset. This embellished sequin number screamed historic Vegas to me and despite there being only one left in stock and not in my size, I would MAKE.IT.WORK.

Although the corset was the centre piece, I knew I wanted the full look to scream more-is-more – with elements that almost clashed. The main colour in the corset is silver, so I set my next task on finding a silver ‘something’ that made for a fitting silhouette against the corset.

Enter Retrofete’s Cressida skirt: with a mega thigh spilt & in a metallic silver gunmetal pleated fabric, this felt it would give a match-y (but not too match-y) nod to the silver of the corset. I also knew this would be an item to slot well into my wardrobe – it likely goes without saying that I never want to purchase a garment I can only see myself in once.

Coming back to the ‘more-is-more’ concept – hi, hi zebra print.

A Vegas showgirl in the depths of British winter naturally needs some faux-fur. I (surprisingly) didn’t own anything like this oversized faux-fur number and having had this Attico coat in my MyTheresa wish-list for some time, I listened to this sign from the universe me & added to cart.

The Last Showgirl is a beautiful cinematic triumph.

Filmed in only 18 days with a small cast and crew, it has a deeply independent & intimate feel. With loveable & memorable characters, it’s an emotional joy to watch with moments of humour & a focus on human relationships & interactions. I loved it, and the icing on cake (or cherry on top if you prefer) was chatting with Pamela briefly afterwards.

Huge thanks to Charnley Communications for the invite.
