About Sammi

Ārdēo x The Great Frog

It’s here:

Ārdēo x The Great Frog

A collaboration between two independent British brands with pieces reflecting core & integral aspects of both. Merging Ārdēo’s signature design with The Great Frog’s legendary craftsmanship.

We began conversations for this collaboration at the start of summer this year – knowing this needed to be a key December launch for us both, and ofc have a festive launch party to celebrate.

Ārdēo x The Great Frog

Made with some of my personal favourite materials [leather, gold, sterling silver, Swarovski] it’s a four piece collection with each item having it’s own allure. I am utterly in love with how these pieces have come together; each feeling like they represent our brands so well.

Ahead of the launch, the annual TGF Christmas window install took place; this year featuring our collaboration ouroboros.

With the ouroboros design dominating the window space in gold foil, both logos from our brands [beyond!!] are in the centre in the same foil. Surrounding the design is the most beautiful seasonal foliage complete with striking red berries and dried fruits. It came to life so magically; I am so honoured & thankful to TGF [major shout out to Danielle & Reino] for including us in this special moment right in the heart of Soho, London.

THE DESIGNS

Ouroboros Brass Harness

We’ve taken the design & composition of our iconic High Waist Harness and added a collaboration twist. Each loop hardware on the harness is an ouroboros: this design was intricately hard carved by Reino and finished in solid brass. The detail on this is immense.

Comes with collaboration dust-bag.

Each item is hand-stamped with our collaboration logo. Made in London.

Ouroboros Silver & Swarovski Harness

The most major statement piece from the collection.

Complete with hand-finished Swarovski crystals across the back of the leather [56 in total – I cannot express the joy these give me as they sparkle] and Cubic Zirconia eyes for the snakes. I am absolutely head-over-heels for this harness – you can see me styling it for the first time here.

Comes with collaboration dust-bag.

Each item is hand-stamped with our collaboration logo. Made in London.

Belt Ring

Inspired by vintage belt rings and the hardware of our harnesses. The belt ring has a flex to it unlike I have ever seen on a classic belt ring, a nod to the leather and harness shapes. Available in three different finishes: sterling silver, solid 9ct yellow gold & mixed metals of silver for the band and 9ct yellow gold for the hardware harness/belt details.

Packaged in collaboration gift box.

Each ring is hallmarked and stamped with our collaboration logo.

Snake Chain

An intricate snake chain complete with scale details on the links.

The head of the snake is part of the clip closure & the body wraps around the clip itself: no detail is spared. In solid brass with a great weight to it, this looks incredible against denim and can be clipped onto most of our harnesses.

autumn styling

It likely goes without saying that I am big on styling.

I happily wear the same pieces time & time again, but I’ll likely style them in different ways, making outfits feel fresh to me. There’s no better time of year to go bold with accessories & styling than autumn: necklace layering over turtlenecks, pops of sparkly earrings at night, a harness cinching in a blazer…

Earrings: as much of a fine jewellery lover that I am, when it comes to earrings; I love to switch these out daily with less bank-breaking pieces (the first lobe that is – I am sure as hell not changing tragus/daith/conch everyday) Earrings add shape and a little extra detail.

Below I’ve listed some go-to earrings of mine: more affordable in price point than solid gold, for sure, but still great quality & that last years.

EARRINGS:

Harnesses: as iffff I could create this post without mentioning my own brand and favourite accessory, the harness. Adding detail, structure and with the ability to totally transform the vibe of a look, there’s no better time of year to give one a go. I believe in excellent quality and all of our harnesses are handmade in Portugal with beautiful craftsmanship. If you’re new to the harness world, I recommend trying the Classic Belt Harness as it has a belt element that won’t feel too ‘out there’.

WEARING THE CLASSIC BELT HARNESS:

Hosiery: we have most definitely entered tights season here in England in the last two weeks. A highly recommended way of keeping legs warm, but also adding colour or texture. Add knee socks or leg warmers for extra warmth, depth and silhouette.

HOSIERY:

Rings: naturally I am a magpie throughout the year for rings. There is, however, something extra special about the autumn-winter sparkle of rings as the dull grey light sets in. Plus, in practical terms, I do find stacking this time of year a pure joy as there is no finger swelling as temperatures are pretty consistently low. Some mega fine favourites, below.

RINGS:

Knitted Scarves: a cosy staple for when the mega chill sets in, but also a way of adding texture, colour and detail to a look. I love a simple block-coloured scarf, but equally adore the bold Loewe scarf with fuzzy logo. An excellent gift.

SCARVES:

it’s always about the outfit

September has been a whirlwind of a month.

I saw 3 countries in 1 week, took 8 flights, went to numerous events & planned out 2739 outfits. Off the back of this, here’s a round up of some of the looks from this excessive month.

I’ve been having the biggest love affair with latex but popped my wearing red cherry in Milan last week at the Vogue Italia x Kiko party. Managing to shoot on a small road at the most magically-lit dusk time of day with my fav Hollie made for some barely edited photos – the dream.

This ended up being a goth cheerleader vibe [super into ofc] secured with the latest Corset Harness.

Back in England in early September, we [the fam and I] attended the annual Goodwood Revival: always a proper fun day out and a must if you’re a vintage car enthusiast. I’m not, but I did marry one and I do love an excellent vintage outfit – any excuse to bring out the 1940’s Bakelite-lizard clutch.

In Ireland I had the honour of co-hosting a masterclass with NARS [a dream – I’ll never forget how long it took to work with them and I am so thankful to be here now] It felt a must to go down the all-black outfit route, and bring out a new black latex bodysuit for the occasion. Ridiculously tricky/impossible to do-up alone, pls feel free to watch the grwm with my ever-awesome agent helping me [apologies Marnie, for how much you have now seen of me]

latex: Atsuko Kudo / trousers: Hebe / beret: Ardeo Studios / belt: Ardeo Studios / rings: Marrow Fine

For the first night in Milan, I opted for a sheer lace maxi dress with high neckline.

I adore lace and love skin peeking through. The train on this is major and I love the low front. Cinched in ofc with a harness: this time the vegan version of my much love high-waist harness.

a new season

If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know the changing of the seasons – particularly the swift change from summer to autumn – always excites my love of outfits. It feels like fresh fuel for the never-ending love of styling. The temperatures in late summer/early autumn (at least, in England) are usually perfect for light layering, no tights & the perfect jackets.

I find the colour palette change in nature, as autumn progresses, to be ridiculously inspiring – for day-to-day life as well as in outfits.

LACE LAYERING

The goth within ™ will always be partial to a bit of lace.

At this time of year, it’s the perfect fabric for balancing layering before the temperature plummets. Layer under bodysuits, mini dresses, harnesses, leather & heavier knits. Add a harness (or two) for extra edge.

MEGA PLATFORMS

My love of platforms began at a very young age and quite frankly never left.

A stomping platform boot will always please me. From New Rocks to Versace, it feels there is something for everyone & most budgets. I do love a platform no matter the time of year – however a/w is when they truly come into a magical world of their own. It likely goes without saying that I’ll always be more partial to the more egdy platform. Some favourite selects of mine, below.

POPS OF RED

Rarely one to be seen in red (besides in the form of a matte red lip) there has been an appeal of red to me as of late as the change in season commences. I’ve found myself adding red items to my wish-list: I don’t know if this has ever happened before. Either worn monochromatically or with a side of black/denim/leather, I’m definitely going to trying out some red pieces.

VERSATILE SHIRTS

A shirt is up there versatility wise imo. The mind may naturally conjure up an image of a corporate-outfit scenario (just me?) – but the styling of a shirt can completely transform the vibe it gives off. Worn loose & open with a hint of lace lingerie is always a staple way of styling them for me. Alongside the more preppy worn-under-a-jumper look that I also love as we get further into autumn.

Textures are key here – the way it will lay and how it will make you feel will be drastically different if it is silk or cotton, for example.

POWERFUL JACKETS

An item that will always excite me: jackets.

They are often (alongside coats – but we can wait til October for those, hopefully) the piece that completes an outfit – the last thing you will put on before going out. They feel like the finishing item to me, adding structure and defining your look.

Denim, leather, houndstooth, blazers, cropped: these are staples for me – I love having key jackets I can reach for time & time again. This is definitely where I find designer to often be a real game changer, due to the level of care & attention that goes into the cut and fit of this particular item.

My Magda leather jacket (fortunately bought before a major price increase on their part) remains one of my favourite pieces I own & one of my most reached for this year.

KNITWEAR

This section needs no introduction: we couldn’t face autumn without some cosy + layerable knits.

[…need i mention: black, black, & more black]

As always, I have some key pieces on my autumn/winter wish-list – I always have these saved in places in case of any sales/low stock/quick buy situs: some items are still there from this time last year (ugh, like *that* Saint Laurent coat) what’s on yours?

Marrow x Sammi

Two years ago, I fell in love with the Californian-based jewellery brand, Marrow Fine. Jill (Marrow Fine founder) and I connected online, and after a year of chats, we met up IRL in Palm Springs last year. Having kept in contact and knowing I was travelling to California this summer, Jill casually mentioned a ‘VIP event’ in store. This sounded rad to me, but little did I know it was all going to be a hell of a lot bigger than I had at first anticipated…

The word ‘collaboration’ was brought forward and I couldn’t believe it.

This luxury, exquisite, fine independent jewellery house that I adore wants to work with me? This opportunity wasn’t a debate. Jill and I worked closely together to design a piece I really resonate with, that still feels representative of her brand. Heavily inspired by vintage Claddagh rings, with fine-detailed oxidised engravings, customisable stones, and a diamond detail: the Sempre ring was born.

THE SEMPRE RING

Having a piece that people can make their own & personalise was important to me when creating this ring. I love that you can buy it ‘as is’ with the engravings, (we created two line styles: with opal – I’m an October baby and adore this stone – and with black enamel, for the goth within) but also that you can work closely with Marrow & find a stone that appeals to you, and any sentiments you have. Marrow is a luxury jewellery brand, and this customisable experience extends that aspect further.

I have always loved hearts and what they symbolise. The intention behind this ring was to create something that serves as a reminder to cherish the love & connections we encounter while we’re here.

The event itself was an experience I will never forget.

I cannot fathom how many incredible people travelled far and wide to make it. I did everything I could to spend time, talk, listen, hug and connect with everyone; and it truly went beyond anything I could have imagined. We sold out of the one-of-a-kind rings (you can contact Marrow if you are in love with any you’ve seen) which absolutely blew my mind.

Thank you all for being here: I couldn’t do this without you.

Barbie Premiere

Bubblegum pink latex, sky-high hot pink platforms, bumper bangs: it can only mean the Barbie Premiere look is getting a dedicated moment.

When the invite to this premiere landed in my inbox, I almost squealed with joy. It certainly feels like a highlight film of the year imo – a feel-good, over-saturation of colour & joy – everything a Barbie film should be. Within 30 minutes of this invite landing, I’d worked out in my head the look I wanted to go for and set about contacting everyone I needed to – which in itself, with around 6 working days to go, was a process.

The look came together exactly as I hoped it would; with an ode to vintage Barbie, a nod to ‘life in plastic’ with the latex, and a Sammi spin [in general] on how I would dress as a Barbie.

72 hrs in Puglia

The Italian part of my soul (that’s a quarter fyi, my nonna was from Florence) jumped for absolute joy when an opportunity to experience Puglia with NARS landed in my inbox. I say ‘the Italian part’ but let’s be honest, my ENTIRE soul screamed with joy.

Alongside seven other markets, I travelled with other UK creators and the UK NARS team to immerse in the Afterglow collection and experience the new Afterglow blushes (launching soon – the formula is a skincare-make-up hybrid with a beautiful sheen).

‘Influencer trips’ get a bad rep – I do totally get why – but for so many of us it’s a trip in which we work work work – ensuring we are there for brand in every way possible. Granted; they are ridiculously incredible, beautiful experiences I will never forget. I always pinch myself that they’re even happening.

With an itinerary of dress-codes to adhere to, in my true I-love-being-organised-and-know-no-other-state-of-being self I planned my outfits a few weeks beforehand and packed (as much as I could) with days to spare. Let’s get into the looks.

Day one: il lido. It was warm, we were on the beach: it was like my goth life in Spain all over again, as I sought shade. I wore a simple striped bustier top with denim cut-offs, with a wider striped silk shirt as a cover-up/for an extra bit of layering. Completed the look with my go-to leather belt, an oversized straw hat and mini Loewe raffia bag. Did I give into the Loewe due to the trip? Maybe. Was it worth it? Absolutely.

SHOP THE LOOK:

The evening cocktail night was on the same day as the lido, and the ‘main event’ so to speak: with an incredible formal dinner in the open Italian air.

I opted for a sheer Jean Paul Gaultier maxi dress I had been coveting and felt this the perfect excuse to take the plunge, finished off with a red lip and my leather beret.

Although I didn’t grab many images of this look, there’s a dedicated reel and also a LGD: pick your social media poison so-to-speak if you wish to see more of this one.

SHOP THE LOOK:

A moment of calm by the pool (editing editing) post-Lido, pre-dinner: I would just like to state – that’s a virgin Mojito. Hunza G swim has become a much-loved brand for me: their swimwear is just ridiculously comfortable and I adore a high waist. Highly recommend.

SHOP THE LOOK:

spring, in black

Just because spring is upon us does not mean I shall step away from all black looks.

It does, however, mean the joy of leather jackets, lighter layers, bare legs and cut outs.

Last week I hopped to London to shoot this look featuring the (imo) highly coveted Prada re-nylon pleated mini skirt. This delightfully over-priced item sat in my wish-list for an age – going in and out of stock – and with me debating the lust/need/desire for it for months.

Low and behold it finally got a hold of me (or I of it) in time for some much needed bare-leg weather.

Sticking with black, my Mugler bodysuit remains a much adored & versatile piece – no matter the time of year. The classic Mugler cut-out details and high neckline are a combination I really enjoy wearing, and it pairs so well with other garments.

Leather details, as ever, remain a focal point: killer 90’s inspired R13 platforms juxtaposed with the modern mini Bottega Jodie, High Waist Harness and leather beret silhouette.

Do you have a coveted item on your wish-list?

SHOP THE LOOK:

The Saint Laurent Leather Jacket

When the Saint Laurent S/S’23 collection hit the runway, my attention was immediately grabbed.

I can say whole-heartedly that it’s been a moment since I fell so instantaneously, deeply and head-over-heels in love with a show and every damn piece in the collection.

The leather, the silhouettes, the mesh, the colour-palette, the styling, the oversized jewellery…it was a truly wonderful sight for the eyeballs to behold and I felt absolutely captivated and in Vaccarello’s world. Each look felt so in-sync with the other and so beautifully thought out. For me, the items felt a connection to the 1980’s-does-1940’s silhouettes. In the 1980’s, there was a real homage happening for the 40’s, with the revival of the structured and oversized shoulder – and I can see a nod to both eras within this collection.

The leather jackets and trench coats, with their domineering, aggressive silhouettes were the heroes for me. There is something so powerful about these looks: androgynous yet feminine, vintage yet modern. The contrast of fabrics and tonal styling really did set it all off.

Setting my sights on being able to own a cropped leather from this collection was the goal.

With months of waiting for the pieces to land, finally the black cropped trench jacket hit MyTheresa and I did not miss a beat after [very fortunately] having just been made a part of MyTheresa’s personal shopper system [I’ve been a faithful shopper at MT for some time now, got myself an upgrade in the nick of time] and I secured it – lock, stock.

pleased

The overall aesthetic of this jacket makes it an absolute forever piece in my wardrobe […and with that price-tag, I’d like to think it really is F-O-R-E-V-E-R]. The shape is certainly in the ‘not for everyone’ category; but I find it truly mesmerising. Love that I can wear this piece day in, day out – it’s going to become/already is a go-to.

The cropped trench leather jackets and trench coats are becoming hard pieces to acquire – with sold out sizes worldwide. For me, this is a signature modern Saint Laurent garment. No regrets.

Be prepared to get sick of seeing me + this jacket; becoming one.
