Seasonal Looks, with Free People

It’s that time in December when you wake up entirely unsure of the day of the week: that post-Christmas, pre-NYE lull has descended upon us.

If you’ve been here for a while (hi! It’s awesome to have you back) or you’re new to my blog-space (welcome, get the kettle on) an important style-fact about me is that I have to get dressed for the day. I can recall countless comments and messages during lockdown ‘…but where are you going?’ ‘why bother getting dressed?’ and the like. For me, it’s a crucial part of how I get the day going, whether I’m in all day at the laptop or running around London for meetings. Granted, I’m big on pyjamas from early-eve on these dreary winter days, but I have to take the time to get dressed regardless of what the day entails.

So whilst we’re in this festive time – that combination of hangs with friends, chill time at home, parties, countless rounds of Scrabble – I switch between the mega-mega sequins and the cosiest of knits.

Let’s get into three of my favourite – personally selected – looks with Free People.

Paid Partnership with Free People

First up: a bit of a mixture between those aforementioned cosy knit and sequin looks. A collaborative effort between the two parties, if you will.

This black jumper is an absolute staple in my wardrobe. Slightly oversized with a short, loose turtleneck, it can be layered over crisp cotton shirts or just over simple bralettes with ease. I paired mine with these totally contrasting high-waist sequin shorts. That silver shine is bound to get you out of bed in the morning.

Going for a short-shoe match moment (making it a thing) but keeping the look with a party-chill balance, I’ve added these distressed studded sneakers. The silver laces match the shorts perfectly and they seriously radiate that much needed December sparkle.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Both the jumper and shorts are so versatile in my eyes, making them great additions to your wardrobe.

Look two features those loved vegan trousers I showed on my Free People blog post back in October. This time, I’ve paired them with a slouchy neon green knit. This particular shade of green is a heart-eye experience for me and I love it against the blackest of blacks. It’s also an extremely cosy jumper, making it an essential ‘what-day-is-it?’ December item.

The trousers have contrasting white stitching details, belt loops and a high waist slim fitting cut. They’re also excellent with bodysuits and band tees.

SHOP THE LOOK:

The final look features one of my all year round go-to items: the blazer.

This is an oversized, black cropped blazer with a single button closure. I went with size XS, and it still remains quite roomy. Excellent with high-waisted anything, it’s an item I reach for on many occasions.

Going back in for more sequins – more, is more – with this mini skirt. A great NYE choice for sure.

In all-over silver sequins with a faux wrap-front detailing, it’s a timeless statement mini that has comfort to boot. Pair with other textured items or keep it sleek and timeless with all black.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Wishing you all an excellent start to 2022: thank you – as ever – for being here.

Christmas Gift Guide

It’s the time of year to gift to those special people in your life. I’m one of those people that loves gift giving. I adore hunting for the perfect gifts for those I love, items they wouldn’t buy for themselves. Admittedly, I can get a bit lax when it comes to the realisation that everything needs to be wrapped. Usually Anton and I make an evening of it: we get a Christmas film on and get to work. This year they’ll be a roaring fire to sit next to which I am ridiculously stoked about. Below I’ve created a few lists for gifting this year to inspire…Enjoy.

FOR THE BEAUTY GURU

They know what’s good and the latest beauty and skincare trends out there. Everything I’ve linked in the carousel below I personally swear by. Beauty & skincare is very personal, and what works for one really may not work for another – it’s always important to bear this in mind. However, for those that love trying the latest eyeshadow palette, or love an evening with a deep cleansing mask whilst reaching for the lip balm, it’s the perfect category.

FOR THE ACCESSORIES LOVER

This is the category for me. I certainly can have a bit of a ‘more is more’ attitude when it comes to accessories. Everything from jewellery to belts excites me – I am here for all of it. If you know a magpie like me, treat them to something they wouldn’t buy themselves, or that you know their eyes will light up over. Astrid & Miyu have 25% off everything at the moment – a great place for affordable jewellery and especially for sparkle. If you’re buying for the bold, head over to my brand ĀRDĒO for beautiful silk scarves. Later this week they’ll be exciting newness with a new product category and a leather harness restock.

FOR HIM

For that special guy in your life. Maybe it’s your best mate, your partner in crime…or an uncle, husband, father. Personally I’ll be on the hunt for the perfect Japanese denim jeans for Anton this year – he’s always a tricky fish to buy for, but this is his number one choice and as he is someone that doesn’t seek shiny new things like certain people (cough). Getting him something he needs is the way forward. I digress…I hope you feel inspired by the selection below.

FOR HER

If I had a quid for the amount of times I’ve heard that I am a ‘nightmare’ to buy for…let’s just say, I’d have quite a few quids. My retort is always that you can’t go wrong with a great candle. Naturally this cannot be said for every woman in the world, but it’s a place to start. My favourite candle brand has to Diptype – the scents last & fill the home.

UNDER £50

A little selection of items for under the £50 mark. A coffee & cake date rates highly, too.

Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Last weekend, I was invited to the Vashi Flagship Store in Covent Garden for an in-depth look at everything they do.

I was first introduced to the brand this summer, but this visit was a special event: not only was the entire Jefcoate crew with me for the experience, I also had a collaboration with the brand to shoot for Instagram [this post is not part of the ad; I just wanted to go into more detail – I love the brand & am so excited to be working with them]

As someone with a ridiculous love affair with jewellery, when you find a new gem…You want to tell people about it.

Vashi prides itself on custom. You can book an appointment with them in store – or visit online – and design a piece completely unique to your desires. Everything is made in house. You can even see the jewellers in action in the store, making it a fully immersive visit.

If you’re booking an appointment to discuss a custom piece/engagement etc, they make the event feel special, however not at all intimidating. Unlike so many luxury jewellers Vashi take that ‘I don’t belong here’ feeling out of the store experience for the customer. You feel so welcome.

In the Covent Garden store you’ll find the top floor has the opportunity to view their staple collections, as well as hero engagement pieces they offer. Downstairs is where they start the magical jewellery making process, as well as having beautiful individual rooms for the private appointments.

We had the opportunity to learn more about diamonds – and see them up close & personal – and we learnt more about the Vashi brand itself, all whilst starting my custom ring journey with a cocktail in hand.

Casey couldn’t have had a better time which I really didn’t see coming – it was definitely an afternoon to remember.

The Louis Vuitton Raw Monogram Coat

There’s certain items that draw you in and take over your mind until you’ve hit ‘add to cart’.

The Louis Vuitton Raw Monogram Coat had this such power over me.

With raw edges thorough out [clue’s in the name] and the impactful LV logo stamped all over, the silhouette is oversized and modern, without feeling so modern it will date quickly. The simplicity of the construction really sold it to me: it’s this that makes the over-the-top monogram really work. It adds a casualness to such a statement jacket, making it effortless. It’s definitely in a category of it’s own price-point wise, but the timeless nature of this piece means it can be brought out year after year.

Tempting as it was to keep the tones neutral on this beauty’s first outing, I decided to add a kelly green knitted set. This is the first time I can recall wearing such a shade of green – it’s not usually a tone I go for – but something about this shade for the time of year with browns really sparked something, and I love how it came together.

Reformation can be a bit hit or miss in my eyes – it’s a quality thing for me – but when they do hit, it’s a real hit. This set is one of those hit moments. It’s a great little two-piece for autumn leading into winter. The knitted cardigan is cosy and comfortable, and the bralette works so well alongside it or as a separate piece. I’ve already worn the cardigan three days since it landed with other pieces.

Autumn Essentials, with Free People

Paid Partnership with Free People

As has been firmly established, there’s no greater time of year for outfits than right now. Knitwear, layers & accessories in abundance.

There’s certain essentials I reach for on my more casual days spent at home. Cropped turtlenecks, bodysuits and knits are those such items – they’re staples that I wear year after year. When the temperature drops they serve as excellent layering pieces as well as looking great on their own.

The Super Crop Seamless Turtleneck is a wardrobe essential. With a cropped silhouette [it’s slim fitting with stretch, I went with XS/S] it pairs perfectly with The It Factor Vegan Pants. These are lined for extra comfort and warmth, and the straight leg cut with contrasting white stitch updates them for the season. Add a chain or belt for extra details – I love this as an all black, mixed textured look.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Those long, cosy days at home need effortless simplicity without reaching for pyjamas. Cue the sweater skirt.

In a warm woven knit in true autumn tone, this is an easy-going pull-on style with cute front pockets. The fabric & waistband has stretch – I went with my usual XS.

Whilst I’m home all day & toasty by the fire, I’ve opted for a knit bralette in black to balance out the warm brown. This fuzzy bralette has a longline V neck and low back, and could be layered over cotton shirts and thin bodysuits. Highly recommend grabbing one of these for this time of year.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Bodysuits & sheer tops are a layering dream and a vital part of my wardrobe all year round, but especially right now when the temperature changes day on day.

Depending on whether you stay home or you’re rushing around town, layering is key to ensuring you remain adaptable to that ever changing temperature. The light sheerness of the Light Up Layering Top (below) works perfectly under a heavier knit, or just add a black blazer as is.

SHOP BODYSUITS & SHEER TOPS:

Moving onto more formal affairs, The Beatrice Maxi Dress is a timeless essential.

Ready in the wardrobe for those seasonal events known to make multiple appearances this time of year.

I went for the ‘Winter Fog’ colour-way – a silvery grey hue. Funnily enough, it’s a tone very similar to that of my wedding dress and a shade I love this time of year, with the frosty like nature it gives off.

The simplicity of the dress aids its wearability to multiple events and occasions – no flashy prints and easy to switch up with various accessories & hair styles. With a nod to vintage, it has a hidden side zipper with a plunging neckline and flattering dropped armhole sleeves.

SHOP ALL ITEMS:

I found all items shown to be true to my usual clothing sizes.

The Season of Getting Dressed

There is no greater time of the year for outfits than right now.

It’s not too cold. It’s not too hot. It’s jacket weather, killer-coat-weather. You can layer in a light manner, pull on statement boots, grab your leathers. Yet you can still wear crops without fear of freezing your tits off, and enjoy being able to see your outfit – before the depths of winter hit, huddled into as many layers and resembling the Michelin Man.

Cropped knits and jumpers are an absolute staple for me. Turtlenecks, sweats, knitted bralettes and cashmere blends – I wear them all in abundance. Likely paired with a pair of high waisted trousers or shorts with tights underneath.

JUMPERS, KNITS & BRALETTES:

At this stage, it probably goes without saying that I love everything clothing wise from bodysuits to sweater dresses. It must be said that a special place is reserved in my heart for jackets and coats. If you live somewhere as bleak as England weather wise, you’ve gotta get into them. This season I picked up my first brown coat and have been lusting over this shade – I’ve now obviously got my eyes on chocolate brown bags.

COATS & JACKETS:

It’s pretty much high waist or no waist for me. There is simply no other way to wear bottoms. I find this the most flattering for my body shape, it always feels the most comfortable and pairs well with the rest of my wardrobe and how I like to put outfits together. My absolute favourite Prada shorts [above] I sadly cannot find online despite the plethora of online shopping sites, but I highly recommend a pair of Prada nylon shorts in another style [more linked below] – such easy wearing. I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again – I’m all about an all black outfit in a mix of textures.

SHORTS & BOTTOMS:

BOOTS & SHOES:

Accessories complete an outfit, fact. Obviously – I would say it – an ĀRDĒO harness is a total must. It’s the ultimate styling piece. We’re working hard to get these back in stock soon after they unexpectedly flew out the store.

So much more than an accessory, my ardent love of bags is eternal. As so with many people, my first luxury purchase was a bag and the deep joy I felt using and owning it was exactly how I anticipated it to be. I don’t come from a family that adores luxury, no ‘hand me down’ items or pieces to await…It was a save up, and keep saving up, situation.

Quick fire bags I am reaching for the most at the moment – the Bottega Pouch, Fendi First, Gucci 1955, Chanel Coco.

BAGS & ACCESSORIES:

P.S autumn VS fall – a mini history lesson.

FarFetch x Sammi

Paid Partnership with FarFetch

To be partnering with FarFetch is a dream come true for me.

As an avid FarFetch-er myself for years, I wanted to showcase some new-in pieces I adore, as well as pieces I’ve had for some time that are forever pieces. There’s also an exclusive 10% off code for you at the end of the post.

Firstly, if you haven’t heard of FarFech before; let me fill you in:

FarFetch is an online global shopping destination for luxury fashion. The FarFetch marketplace connects boutiques worldwide (over 190 countries & territories), making your chances of finding that sought after piece a breeze. It connects creators, consumers, and curators in one place. Create an account & join their loyalty programme, to be rewarded for your shopping – with exclusive discounts and birthday rewards, for example. Save your dream pieces to your wishlist, and receive notifications of price reductions & keep track of stock. It’s an online shopping destination I can’t recommend enough.

Now you’re in the know, let’s move onto outfits & key pieces.

First up, a simple day look with Maison Margiela’s deconstructed wide-leg jeans. The cut of these shows a real reason I am drawn to luxury fashion – the details are impeccable – a simple jean cut has been updated and brought into 2021, with vintage nods remaining intact.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Versace have given me all the heart eyes this season with their ever 90’s platform silhouettes – if you’re a platform gal like me, don’t miss these or the covetable boot version

Paired with a simple top/bralette (all about an underwear as outerwear moment) and an oversized Norma Kamali blazer, this is a look that can be worn with a shirt to the office, to be removed later for that post-work date.

A band tee never fails me. When I spied this R13 Clash number, it was a speedy check out situ. In a cotton blend, the soft hand-feel material has an elevated look that is incredibly comfortable against the skin, whilst also being a perfect weight for autumn.

I tend to opt for shorts over skirts – I love the ease they offer as well as the silhouette. These faux leather Frankie Shop shorts are a win, with pockets and a drawstring waist and a great price point. So versatile as we enter the colder months, with tights & over the knee socks.

SHOP THE LOOK:

My love for R13 stays for the next look. Is it a dress? Is it a jumper? It’s your call.

For today’s look, it’s a mini dress with killer combat boots. With tie dye autumnal tones, distressed details and safety pins all over, it’s not one for the faint of heart…and I highly recommend it.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Below is a list of brand favourites of mine, all included within an exclusive 10% off code I shall bestow upon you. I’ve also gone on my own shopping wish-list spree and curated a selection of additional FarFetch pieces below.

SAMMI’S CURATED FARFETCH PICKS:

Low Neckline, High Morals

When the dress code is all black, I’m pretty damn comfortable.

With a deep v neckline, extra crop and padded shoulders, this little t-shirt number from Gauge 81 is everything but boring. In a hefty black cotton, it’s an easy number to dress up whilst retaining a casual feel due to the fabric. Paired with my ĀRDĒO harness, it’s elevated, made more interesting, kept in place.

Launching this month, the ĀRDĒO harnesses have me totally filled with excitement. As an item that can feel somewhat inaccessible, it’s a joy to bring them into a fashion space, whilst maintaining the aesthetic & craftsmanship I adore. All of the harnesses are hand cut & made in London. This is such a crucial point for me: I believe in quality over quantity, in details, in re-wearing. The leather is European, matte black. There will be two styles available: the high waist as worn here, with luxurious statement brass hardware, and a lower waist silver/nickel version. Both harnesses have the ability to add chains thanks to the well designed details & hardware – this was something I wanted to add in from the get go, and I adore this addition. The chains [both nickel & brass will be available, different price points – brass ain’t cheap folks] will be available to purchase separately – perfect if you’re a chain addict like myself.

Wear the harnesses with style & confidence.

Always one that gives me heart eyes, my Chanel was a birthday purchase to myself in October 2019. It feels like such an underrated Chanel bag to me – never see it on anyone, never see anyone talking about it…Maybe it’s just one I obsess over. With puffy black leather and true yellow gold details, it has a vintage aesthetic to it that I so adore from the brand. There’s a little charm hanging from the back of the bag that is a detail not missed on me, and if money were no object, I would definitely get the larger version for those days when more is more. I’m a sucker for a smaller bag though & keep telling myself I must go larger next time…maybe.

ĀRDĒO

The time is finally upon us: ĀRDĒO launches today.

ardeo [ardere, arsi, arsus] verb. be in a turmoil/love verb. be on fire verb. burn, blaze verb.

Creating a standalone brand was something I always wanted to achieve. An entity, totally separate from my own name, spawn from a deep love of designing, creating, outfits.

Bringing creativity back to getting dressed.

Without restrictions of the fashion calendar, we’re launching with three beautiful silk scarves. Such a staple item for me, and an accessory I’ve naturally worked on before. However, I wanted to elevate the scarves from those I have previously made. ĀRDĒO scarves are all made from premium European silk; they’re all made in Europe, with hand rolled edges & a printed ĀRDĒO logo [you know I love a detail]. The designs are bold – heavily featuring my forever obsession with Baroque, with vibrant tigers and golden heirloom charms.

Alongside an incredible team of industry specialists, I sit as Creative Director of ĀRDĒO. With months of deep planning, [as you can imagine, it’s been a process navigating everything – from Zoom calls, to Covid to Brexit…and everything in between] I am so thrilled to finally be at the stage where we’re ready to go.

I hope you love ĀRDĒO as much as I do.
